The 5ESS®-2000 Switch CDX (Compact Digital Exchange) is a smaller sized switch configuration that provides a comprehensive range of switching solutions and brings advanced digital services to telecommunication service providers and their customers economically. This small switch can support the needs of rural, suburban, campus, office parks, or other locations with standard and advanced digital telecommunication services such as wideband data and video capabilities.
The switch can support configurations for campus, office parks or gated communities using blue and white cabinets sized six (6) foot high x 29.9 inch wide x 23.6 inch deep.
The CDX stand alone 5ESS® Switch efficiently provides services such as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), equal access, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), CENTREX service (call waiting, call hold, etc) services, Wireless applications and Signaling System 7. This means residential, small-mid sized business, "Work at Home", telecommuters, or satellite offices can have the same full range of enhanced services offered to them just like subscribers in metropolian or suburban locations. Subscribers can have access to the Internet or transfer of data to a "Home" office as easily as they make voice calls today.
The 5ESS®-2000 CDX Switch can serve areas with as few as 100 subscribers. Or a CDX switch can serve up to 15,000 local access lines and up to 15,000 remote access lines with the same quality and reliability as the largest metropolitan 5ESS®-2000 Switch. It uses the same software as the 5ESS® Switch and the same distributed common hardware architecture so it can easily evolve to a full sized 5ESS® Switch to satisfy changing environments.
The 5ESS®-2000 Switch CDX meets RUS (Rural Utility Service) formerly known as the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) specifications. This allows small independent telephone companies to access government support.
