Community and Campus Communication

Small Switch Exchanges

Smaller switches such as the CDX and VCDX allow economical switching equipment in new suburban developments, campuses, residential or office complexes, and rural areas. The CDX can grow, module by module, to become a large 5ESS®-2000 Switch as a communities needs change.

The VCDX switch provides a very small switch configuration. This small configuration is used by CATV, CAPS, small towns, government facilities, and many international locations. This stand alone configuration is built on the 5ESS®-2000 Switch platform and provides not only telephone services, equal access, central office services (such as call waiting, etc) but also allows Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) services for higher speed internet access, data transfer and voice mail.

A VCDX small switch meets RUS (Rural Utility Service) formerly known as the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) listed borrower requirements. It can easily evolve into several other configurations and everything can be reused as needed, except the workstation (which could be use for a different computer application).
