Personal Communications Service

PCS, Personal Communications Service refers to the radio spectrum between 1.8 GHz and 2.1 GHz. Licenses to use 30 and 10 MHz portions of this spectrum are being auctioned off by the US government. Wireless communications are growing rapidly and the current cellular licenses in the 800 MHz spectrum are reaching capacity. PCS spectrum will supplement this.

Standard, Open Interfaces

The Air ExtensionTM system architecture is based on the PACS (Personal Access Communications Service) developed by Bellcore and now an ANSI standard.

5ESS® Switch Platform

We looked at many architectures and platforms for our Wireless Network Controller (WNC) before deciding on the 5E11, 5ESS®-2000 VCDX Switch. Using the VCDX as a software and hardware platform gave us a small, reliable, NEBS compliant, platform that both our developers and our customers were familiar with. The only new hardware needed was the W-Card. This card, based on an ISLU-Z card, allows us to bridge the wireless and wired phones.
