Network Performance

Nothing adversely affects customer perceptions more than poor reliability and poor performance, either on the network or in local switches. Today service providers are faced with the challenge of overcoming busy signals, dead lines and gridlock caused by the growth of Internet traffic. A solution is found in Lucent Technologies 5E11 software feature, known as Project Renaissance.

Project Renaissance modernizes the present switching module platform by using the SM2000 with a Digital Network Unit -- SONET, the Access Interface Unit, and some existing central office peripheral Line Units. This increases trunk and line capacity and prepares the central office and its network for Broadband Services. This change lowers costs plus it simplifies operations for service providers. And the process improves service and delivers greater access speeds to users.

After the switching module platform is modernized, the likelihood of either Internet or voice calls being blocked is reduced. Since Internet users stay on-line five times longer than telephone users, changes using Project Renaissance make a real difference in improving service for both telephone users and Internet web visitors.
