The 5ESS®-2000 Switch continues Lucent Technologies' leadership role in the wireless area. Lucent Technologies added FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access), TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access, and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access to the VCDX small switch. The VCDX can now function as a wireless switch.
Software Release 5E11 adds an SS7 (Signaling System 7) interface to the 5ESS®-2000 VCDX (Very Compact Digital Exchange) Switch. This enables service providers to offer advanced telecommunication services, once found only on large metropolitan switches such as the 5ESS®-2000 Switch, now in low density population areas. Advanced services include CLASS (Custom Local Area Signaling Services) features, Calling Name Delivery, 800 data base queries, and Advanced Intelligent Network capabilities.
