(8 if you have 4 conductor RG11) 1 pocket knife, or wire stripper [optional add-on]:: 1 4 connector modular jack 1 line splitter 2 3ft RG11 (4 connector with plugs) 8 alligator clips (screw type prefered) [radio shack product info]:: -430-2100 MINI TELECOM PHONE -FAXBACK DOCUMENT #: 54940 -EXPLODED VIEWS/PARTS LIST 54941 DETAILED PARTS LIST -QUICK REFERENCE PARTS LIST CAT NO. |DESC. -------------------------- 12176517|HEADSET IN EAR |WITH LABEL CL -------------------------- 12176558|STRAP NECK -------------------------- 12176556|CORD LINE |TELEPHONE -------------------------- [how to make your mod]:: take your 6ft phone cord and cut it in half, strip down the wires and put your alligator clips on as if you were making a biege box. plug both wires into the bottom of the hole, and viola! you've finished your modification. i would also keep 2 3ft wires with me that have plugs on both ends, just in case you are lucky enough to have test jacks on site. [how to use your mod]:: well, go out to your local telephone network interface, and attatch your first wire (it will be on the bottom right side of the mini- phone and it will be marked "to line") to line 1. if you are lucky enough to have a test jack on the interface itself, use it (i know from experience that it's alot better than alligator clips). now, once you have a dailtone, call your uncle bob, or your friend frank. once you have them on the line, hook up your second wire (marked "to phone") to line 2. you should get a dailtone...again. then call your girlfriend, and there you go, instant party line...kinda neat, huh? [add-on modification]:: ok, attatch 4 alligator clips to the 4 wires on the back of your modular jack. cut 1 end off of one of your 3ft wires, strip the wires on the end of it, and proceed to attach the alligator clips to it. that was simple, huh? [how to use your add-on]:: hook the modular jack up to line 1 on your telephone network interface, plug the splitter into it. plug your 3ft cord that has both plugs into your miniphone (on the jack marked "to line"), and plug the other end into the left side of your splitter. take your other three foot cord, plug it into the right side of the splitter. call your cell phone, or call your friend (if you call a friend, tell them to start dailing when they hear a dialtone). once you get a connection there, hook the other end of your second 3ft wire to line 2. the miniphone should go dead, giving you a dail- tone on your cellphone, or giving your friend a dailtone. why is this useful? any time you dail out from this number, ANI recognises it as the number your miniphone is hooked up to. can you say "caller id spoofing"? use your imagineation, find other ways to hook this bad-boy up, and most of all, HAVE FUN! [notes]:: -this mod is designed for a network interface that has 2 or more active lines. -screw type alligator clips reccomended on all parts. -2 conductor wire works great for the basic modification, but 4 conductor is required for the add-on. -tried 54940 on fax back (06/24/01, 1:29am), and could not get the document, although document 54941 did come through. -cat.no. 12176556 (cord line telephone) could possibly be cat.no. 12176566
