               [ - Understanding JBHS Phone Systems - ]


Disclaimer:

The primary goal of this textfile is to help you better understand
how the JBHS phone system and other related school's phone 
systems are setup and operated.  I take no responsibility for the misuse
of this file. 

Introduction:

The faculty of JBHS need a conveniant way to communicate throughout
the building in order to reach students and other faculty members.
It's a huge hassle for the central office to announce directly into
the room using an intercom which is often loud and disruptive. Also
other faculty members cannot communicate directly to other rooms.

The Solution:

To solve this problem, a touchtone phone is installed in each room throughout 
the building. In order to contact a certain room, all you need to do is
dial the number of that room, and the call is sent out. This causes
much relief for personel, but also much room for human error.

The System:

There is an elaborate routing system setup within the school
so calls can reach their destination. It is my assumption that this network
is controlled by a switchboard and/or computer. The location of these
may vary depending on your school, but key places to check would be in the
central office or janitorial areas. Once you find the box this system relies
on, a username/password may be required, but once inside the possibilities
are infinite.

Conclusion:

I'm sure many of you phreaks out there can concoct a way to tamper
with this system. You could very easily switch numbers causing calls to
reach the wrong destination, and teachers to find themselves in a
bind. This system also prohibits calls to be made outside of the building,
but yet again, a little tampering could fix that problem.
