HOW TO MAKE THE SOCIAL BOX AND FREE LONG DISTANCE CALLS USING A HOTEL PHONE BY BURN-CYCLE This text file explains how a person could make free local calls from a pay phone using Social Engineering techniques. It also explains how at some hotels it is possible to make long distance calls without paying a penny. Remember though, I am not responsible for your actions. If you use these methods an get into trouble it's your problem, not mine. Have phun! THE SOCIAL BOX It is possible in some areas to make a free local call from a payphone. All you need is a voice box and a mouth (tounge too) and some Social Engineering skills. Now I don't know if my hacker-friends and I were the first to discover this, but I haven't read about this anywhere on the net, so I thought I'd share it. Call your local operator by dialing 0 (zero). When they pick up the phone and say their little welcoming message say, "Yeah I put a quarter into the phone and dialed the number but it just went, dead." Now sometimes the operator will ask for the number you were trying to reach. Give it to them and they should connect you. They may try to return the quarter to you, but just play along and say it never came back. If this technique is used too much though the operators will start asking for your address so they can mail you a check for 25 cents. I would just say no because if you went to the bank 25 times for checks for 25 cents, it would look a little strange. Now if you do the same technique will a long distance call it may be possible to get a check in the mail for 5 to 6 dollars. I don't know about that one though. FREE LONG DISTANCE CALLS USING A HOTEL PHONE The Front Desk is where it all really happens. Actually it's all really easy if you think about it. Each room has a phone. And usually the phone has a list next to/on it saying something like this: Local Calls: Dial 6 + NUMBER Long Distance Calls: Dial 4 + AREA CODE + NUMBER Most hotels will not charge you for making local calls. This is probably because they figure, "Who the hell will they call, they're on vacation!". They will, of course, charge you for making long distance calls. Some hotels may even charge you for the actual call and the service of using their phone. Rip off, I know! Anyway, at the Front Desk each time you make a call it logs the first "dial-out" number you press. So if you press "6" (refer to example above) then it would log that you made a local call. The hotel may not even log local calls. If you were to press "4" (refer to ex.), then it would log that you've made a long distance call, and then it would start logging the amount of time you were on for. Now I don't know if this is standard for all hotels or not because I don't spend much time at them (I like my house better). Now this is where the stupidity of the hotel comes into play! The hotel I figured this out at didn't even look at the number I was dialing. They just looked at the "dial-out" number and if it was "6" (refer to ex.) then they just assumed I was making a local call and didn't charge me for it. You can probably figure out what I did next. For those that can't, I'll fill ya in. I dialed the dial-out number for a local call, but then I called long distance! I never got billed for calls that I made back home and all around..hehehe. Remember, I don't know if this will work at all hotels or not so you may want to check it out before you try it. Enjoy.
