5ESSŪ Switch

The first 5ESS® Switch was installed in Seneca, Illinois in March, 1982. This digital 5ESS® Switch provides local service, ISDN, Operator and International Gateway services, and a host of custom business and residential service offerings. It replaced earlier electromechanical or analog switching systems.The 5ESS® Switch has supported basic toll capabilities since 1983. Core long distance signalling, call handling, routing and billing capabilities and key operations, administration, and maintenance (OA&M) is on the 5ESS® Switch.

The newest 5ESS® Switch is the 5ESS® -2000 Switch which provides local and long distance, wireless and wireline, custom and national ISDN and multiple advanced services.

The 5ESS® Switch is being used by service providers (telephone, cable, TV) throughout the United States and internationally. All major US telephone service providers, and many independent telephone companies, cable companies, Competitive Access Providers and other service providers use the 5ESS®-2000 Switch and its related family of switch products and services in their networks.
