Burton made his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup debut in the inaugural race at Loudon, N.H., in 1993. In 1994, Burton ran the full season for Stavola Brothers winning two top-five and three top-ten finishes and won a hotly-contested battle for the 1994 MAXX Rookie of the Year title, beating, among others, his older brother Ward for the crown. Two years later, Burton joined Roush Racing and finished 13th in the Winston cup standings with six top-five and 12 top-ten finishes.

The 2007 season marked Burton’s 18th in the NASCAR Busch Series where he has earned 22 wins, 11 poles, 72 top-five and 119 top-10 finishes in 261 starts.

Burton's interest in racing began at age five, watching Ward run go-karts in South Boston, Va. Eventually he began racing and won the state go-kart championship twice before venturing into stock car racing. He recorded 21 NASCAR Winston Racing Series wins prior to moving up to the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division. Success followed him there as he posted four wins, 15 top-five and three poles in five seasons.

Burton is one of the most outspoken drivers on the circuit on safety matters. He recently signed the AT&T Safety Pledge. More informatino is available at the AT&T Be Sensible page.
